Review for Sonne

The movie for Sonne features some of the best work by a member of the Clock Crew - a club notorious for bringing low-effort movies to Newgrounds (I'm not biased agains their movies, I've just seen way too many bad ones). But once in a while some of their movies shines above the rest - this is one of the few that does, unfortunately its shine of glory isn't as bright as a lot of other movies here.

Sonne features only the most rudimentary of character animations: motion tweens. There is no incredible display of movement here, just simple keyframes that has Flash do all the work.

Even though animation and movement is only part of what makes a good movie good, the artwork is almost as abysmal. Aside from the clocks, which are designed by other members, the guards look like gingerbread men cut out with cookie cutters an otaku would own. On top of this I was wondering if the characters were being shot by paintball guns or if those little red dots were actually supposed to be bloody bullet holes. The backgrounds were by far the most impressive artwork - being very stylistic... or maybe just laziness.

But effort put into graphic design and movment of said graphics is still only a small part of a story...

Now, if I knew nothing about the Clock Crew I would have thought this was one weird foreign movie some angry German guy made when he got his hands on Flash. I would admire the symbolism used in spend long days trying to figure out the motif behind fruit and clocks... Germany is famous for clocks... maybe that has something to do with it... Instead I know that all the author did was immitate the Rammstein video, with the "clever" twist of sticking in some clock characters.

The best part of this music video was the music. There's something I really enjoy about Rammstein's work. Unfortunately, I can't rate you based on someone else's work.

I don't know why this movie has captivated such a large audience, but it really didn't amuse me much. Still, one of the better clock movies I've seen, not the best, but I'd have a decent outlook on their work if more were like this movie.

I <3 Frame-By-Frame

It's always nice to see hand drawn, FBF animation.
The sounds needed some engineering, they sounded too cut. The phrases barely made any sense making the story moot.
But it's got a nice style, even though it's just two stickmen (that's the only reason why I rated graphics low - could have been an easy 10 if it were anything but lines for graphics).

Movement was mostly just tweens. I didn't much care for the rehashed Austin Powers humor.
This one was better than most of your other movies.

No Summary

You should work on quality more than quantity, a shorter, but better looking movie would have been better. Focus on making it look nicer.
The sounds were really bad, that was really annoying. The voices were fuzzed and seemed too loud. Try working with sound engineering a little more to fix that. Although I did enjoy the Earthbound music in there.
The artwork looked really messed up. Work on style a little more and a cleaner look. Try using the pencil tool.

Messed up?Hmmm, don`t know where everone is talking about, but i guess i take a look.I do use the pencil.
Guess i have to follow everyone`s example and just draw every character once and reuse them a zillion times instead of drawing them over and over again.

A Good Start

The art had a lot of emphasis put into it, but the animation (movement) lacked.
I enjoy walking dead stories, and other than a chemical spill or radioactive explosive, they don't need much more than that for the story. However, there was much to be desired for this because it had a feature-length plot and ended so abruptly. I wanted to see zombies eating flesh & brains and getting blown up and shot.
Still, it was entertaining for its length and had effort put into it.
One last thing - stay away from shape tweening (like when the monkey turns into a monster) until you know how to use it properly, otherwise it looks really bad.

It Was Pretty Decent

The song got annoying, but I gave you a high score in the Sound area because I'm assuming you made that song yourself. If it wasn't yours than I'd give you a really low score for that.
Although the movie was involving, it seemed like the whole story made little sense, had no plot, or development. But I enjoyed the intro which familiarized us with Wonderlick and the other characters.
Work on developing plot and theme, you have a good story going without dialogue.

Thanks

Thanks for making some great Flash content for us. I appreciate your hard work to bring everyone enjoyable entertainment.
Sorry if my last review of one of your animations was so harsh, but you seemed to take the criticism very well, unlike everyone else I've written reviews for. I admire that.
Although some of the animation was lacking either through time constraints, ability, or effort, I was impressed by the level of art and animation this provided.
What I enjoy most about Miracle Explosion is the unique story. Very adventureous and fantastic. Oh, and that Tummie Theme of course :)

Keep Trying

Although it's obvious you have no idea how to create a complete story nor draw much better than a gorilla, this was none-the-less a very good attempt for your level of experience.
Some suggestions: Stay away from tired jokes that have been overused mercilessly. The whole "I'm your father." gag has been done and redone since the Star Wars movies came out decades ago.
The ONLY original drawings I remember was the blood, and I have to disagree with the other reviewers, I liked the style of the blood (pretty silly). Though I found myself wondering if Kirby actually had blood... stay away from using blood, try going with puffs of clouds and stars like in the game. That doesn't mean stay away from action, Kirby is full of action and drama (in a lampooning way).
All in all, if you enjoy creating animated stories you should stay with it as you will get much better. You've got more talent than a lot of others trying their hand at video game parodies.

1. It's a friggin sprite cartoon, it's not SUPPOSED to have drawings in it, at least not many.
2. You can't really say I have the drawing talent of a gorilla after viewing about 2 drawings that aren't even supposed to look good.
3. What do you mean 'create a complete story'? It's a fight cartoon, there's not SUPPOSED to be a story.
4. Finally, I know some of the jokes were old - however, you should have noticed that I was actually subtly poking fun at how much they had been overused.

I think you need to rethink what the phrase 'Sprite Movie' actually means, then you can review sprite movies.

I <3 Egg

Although I think eggs are one of the most disgusting foods (if you can call chicken embryos food), I love this series.
You protray gravity so well, and your understanding and execution of stretch & squash is superb. Combine these techniques with your storytelling and cinematography talents and you've got a perfect animation.
This is one of the only decent series on Newgrounds, and one I want to see continue. You have my support all the way.

I make things.
Been a longtime collaborator with authors here on Newgrounds, most notbably Piconjo, SickDeathFiend, and GreatAnimatorOnizuka.
